Pianist Bill Mays’ career as a professional musician spans the last 60 years and includes a multitude of musical endeavors. Following four years as a bandsman in the U.S. Navy Bill spent 15 years as a session player in the Hollywood studios. In 1984 he re-located to New York City, firmly establishing himself as an in-demand sideman and leader of his own ensembles. He has worked with jazz legends Benny Golson, Shelly Manne, Red Mitchell, Gerry Mulligan, Bud Shank, Frank Sinatra, Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, Sarah Vaughan, and Phil Woods. His many recordings as a leader (solo, duo, trio and sextet) are well-documented on the Chiaroscuro, Concord, DMP, Palmetto, and Steeplechase record labels.

A prolific composer and arranger, Mays has written extended suites for bass, flute, woodwind septet, and pieces for big band and orchestra (New York Philharmonic, Carnegie Hall Jazz Band, Turtle Creek Chorale, WDR Big Band, U.S. Air Force Airmen Of Note). His latest recordings include Phil & Bill (with saxophonist Phil Woods), Side By Side: Sondheim Duos (with bassist Tommy Cecil), Front Row Seat (solo piano), Bill Mays Trio Live at COTA and Mays Plays Mays. Clive Carroll

Blue Bamboo Center for the Arts, 1905 Kentucky Ave, Winter Park

Acclaimed guitarist and composer Clive Carroll has created a sound world all his own, with a signature blend of warmth and humour that belies his dazzling technical skill. Clive’s masterful compositions feature influences mined from the delicate cadences of Elizabethan lute classics, the imaginative eccentricity of Frank Zappa, visionary classical composers such as Bartok and Ligeti, and hints of jazz and Delta blues!

Clive made his musical debut at age two as a banjo-strumming cowboy singing nursery rhymes, and went to to earn a 1st Class Honours Degree in Composition and Guitar from the famed Trinity College of Music in London. He has toured and worked with guitar greats such as John Williams, Tommy Emmanuel, Xuefei Yang, Ralph Towner, and John Renbourn— as well as pop icon, Madonna!

Acoustic Guitar Magazine calls Clive, “Probably the best and most original young acoustic guitarist/composer in Britain”, and Total Guitar Magazine includes him in their “Top 10 Best Acoustic Guitarists of AllTime”.

Clive’s latest solo CD, “The Furthest Tree”, has been described as “…sensational instrumental music that knows no boundaries”, and, “…a classic recording in the field of guitar music”.

Join us as Daniela Soledade and Nate Najar bring their live version of "Love and Bossa Nova" to Blue Bamboo!

Downbeat Magazine calls her a “master of classic samba and bossa nova.” Born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, vocalist/guitarist Daniela Soledade grew up in a family of musicians with a direct line to the origins of Bossa Nova. Daniela’s grandfather was Paulo Soledade, who composed songs with legendary Brazilian artists Antonio Carlos Jobim, Vinicius de Moraes, Toquinho and Baden Powell. Her father, Paulinho Soledade is an artist and producer who learned guitar from Baden Powell himself and has worked with legends Ivan Lins and Gilberto Gil among others. As a child Daniela participated in studio recordings for Brazilian artists such as Xuxa and the band Oxgênios. At age 14, she placed first in the entrance exam to attend the prestigious Music Conservatory Villa Lobos. Daniela settled in the United States in 2003 and maintains a busy performing schedule. Her debut album, “A Moment of You” was released September 6, 2019 on Blue Line Music Records.

Guitarist Nate Najar is emerging as one of this decade’s finest modern jazz exponents. He is a player who uses a distinctive technique to convey his artistic prowess- not many artists play acoustic classical guitar with right hand classical technique, yet it is the perfect choice for Najar’s comprehensive approach. Not restricted to single notes or chords, Nate seamlessly weaves melody, harmony and rhythmic freedom. The result is music that is swinging, emotional, inventive and interesting. Continuing to perform at major venues and festivals across the entire globe, Nate’s latest album, Under Paris Skies was released in 2018 on Woodward Avenue Records. Rick Andersen of the All Music Guide called Nate "one of the most consistently interesting and stylish young guitarists on the jazz scene…." Becky Byrd, wife of the late guitarist Charlie Byrd says it best: "There is no doubt that there is a piece of Charlie's soul in Nate's mind, heart and fingers. Get ready world, here comes Nate Najar!!!"
