An afternoon of jazz with pianist James Navan and friends.

James Navan was born in Queens, NY, and moved to Port Charlotte, FL at a young age. Beginning his piano studies at age 11, James got his start as an accompanist playing for churches and local theaters in high school. After gigging with and learning from many of Orlando's finest jazz musicians and completing his B.M. in Jazz Studies at the University of Central Florida in 2012, he joined the Glenn Miller Orchestra, touring full time for almost two years. After joining the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra for a few tours, he then spent one year in Winston-Salem, NC studying with renowned classical pianist and injury-prevention specialist, Barbara Lister-Sink. Since relocating to New York City in 2015, James has already performed with artists Andy Fusco, Joe Magnarelli, Tom Wopat, Carl Bartlett Jr. and others, at esteemed jazz venues such as Smalls, Fat Cat and Minton's. He recently completed his M.M. In Jazz Studies at Queens College, where he was the recipient of the prestigious Sir Roland Hanna award, given to one jazz pianist each year. He still performs with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra regularly and is also the pianist for the St. John's University mixed chorus.
