Bill Mays 10/25/23

 —  —

Blue Bamboo Center for the Arts, 1905 Kentucky Ave, Winter Park

Pianist Bill Mays’ career as a professional musician spans the last 60 years, and includes a multitude of musical endeavors; a bandsman in the U.S. Navy, 15 years as a session player in the Hollywood studios, and an in-demand sideman and leader of his own ensembles in New York City.

He has worked with such jazz legends as Benny Golson, Shelly Manne, Red Mitchell, Gerry Mulligan, Bud Shank, Frank Sinatra, The Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, Sarah Vaughan, and Phil Woods.

"[Bill Mays] explores the full range of the piano in a style that owes as much to 20th century classical technique as to jazz.” (David Badham, Jazz Journal)

"[Bill] performed so intuitively throughout the set that a listener could believe [they were] hearing behind the notes. It all seemed so relaxed and at the same time so spontaneous, so exhilarating and so exuberant.” (Geoff Chapman, The Toronto Star)
