Daniela Soledade and Nate Najar - Love & Bossa Nova LIVE 1/15/2022

Blue Bamboo Center for the Arts, 1905 Kentucky Ave, Winter Park

Join us as Daniela Soledade and Nate Najar bring their live version of "Love and Bossa Nova" to Blue Bamboo!

Downbeat Magazine calls her a “master of classic samba and bossa nova.” Born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, vocalist/guitarist Daniela Soledade grew up in a family of musicians with a direct line to the origins of Bossa Nova. Daniela’s grandfather was Paulo Soledade, who composed songs with legendary Brazilian artists Antonio Carlos Jobim, Vinicius de Moraes, Toquinho and Baden Powell. Her father, Paulinho Soledade is an artist and producer who learned guitar from Baden Powell himself and has worked with legends Ivan Lins and Gilberto Gil among others. As a child Daniela participated in studio recordings for Brazilian artists such as Xuxa and the band Oxgênios. At age 14, she placed first in the entrance exam to attend the prestigious Music Conservatory Villa Lobos. Daniela settled in the United States in 2003 and maintains a busy performing schedule. Her debut album, “A Moment of You” was released September 6, 2019 on Blue Line Music Records.

Guitarist Nate Najar is emerging as one of this decade’s finest modern jazz exponents. He is a player who uses a distinctive technique to convey his artistic prowess- not many artists play acoustic classical guitar with right hand classical technique, yet it is the perfect choice for Najar’s comprehensive approach. Not restricted to single notes or chords, Nate seamlessly weaves melody, harmony and rhythmic freedom. The result is music that is swinging, emotional, inventive and interesting. Continuing to perform at major venues and festivals across the entire globe, Nate’s latest album, Under Paris Skies was released in 2018 on Woodward Avenue Records. Rick Andersen of the All Music Guide called Nate "one of the most consistently interesting and stylish young guitarists on the jazz scene…." Becky Byrd, wife of the late guitarist Charlie Byrd says it best: "There is no doubt that there is a piece of Charlie's soul in Nate's mind, heart and fingers. Get ready world, here comes Nate Najar!!!"

Fred Moyer Trio

Blue Bamboo Center for the Arts, 1905 Kentucky Ave, Winter Park

What can safely be called the only jazz group of its kind, the Fred Moyer Jazz Trio dazzles with stunning musicianship and a unique approach to jazz. Like other small jazz ensembles, the trio performs its own arrangements of standards from the great American Songbook. But what sets it apart from all others is its note-for-note transcriptions of great jazz trio performances from the past. Fred and friends painstakingly transcribe every note of favorite historic recordings, and then bring the resulting scores to life as would a chamber music ensemble playing Bach or Beethoven, infusing the music with their own vitality and interpretations. The result is a swinging celebration of the best in jazz, delighting both classical music lovers and long-time jazz enthusiasts.

FREDERICK MOYER, PIANO Frederick Moyer's teachers include his mother Betsy, Theodore Lettvin, Eleanor Sokoloff and Menahem Pressler of the Beaux Arts Trio. He attended Curtis Institute of Music and Indiana University. He has since established a career of over 35 years as a full-time concert pianist, performing in forty-four countries and in such far-flung venues as Suntory Hall in Tokyo, Sydney Opera House, Windsor Castle, Carnegie Recital Hall, Tanglewood, and the Kennedy Center. He has appeared as piano soloist with most of the major orchestras of the United States as well as many orchestras of Europe, Asia, South America, Africa and Australia.

Moyer's far-reaching interests have allowed him to contribute to classical music in unique ways. An avid computer programmer, he often incorporates technology into his concerts. He owns patents for the MoyerCam which improves the audience's view of the pianists hands, and for his environmentally friendly CD packaging. He performs note-for-note transcriptions of such jazz pianists as Oscar Peterson, Bill Evans and Erroll Garner, bringing this great American music onto classical music stages. In July 2009, Dr. Paul Green and he unveiled an unfinished piano sonata by Robert Schumann, a find that was widely reported in the news media.

His many recordings comprise works by over thirty composers and reflect an affinity for a wide variety of styles. His CD of Clara Schumann's Piano Concerto was the first commercial recording of a large-scale Romantic work using an orchestra created from sampled sounds. His Mussorgsky/Mendelssohn CD was the first using the Bosendorfer 290 SE Recording Piano. Other recordings include David Ott's Second Piano Concerto with the London Symphony which was written for Moyer. Many other composers have written for Moyer including Pulitzer Prize winners George Walker and Ned Rorem, and Donal Fox whose Etudes of 2002-2006 were commissioned by the Guggenheim Foundation.

LOWELL RINGEL, BASS Lowell Ringel is a award-winning bassist, composer, and educator originally from Hillsborough, North Carolina. Both his playing and composing focus on emotion, and how to communicate such a subtle and deeply personal aspect of the human experience through music. Heavily influenced by Charlie Haden and Scott Lafaro, Ringel is known for his lyrical soloing, as well as his steady, yet creative, sense of groove and rhythm. He splits his time between his home in Chapel Hill, North Carolina and Miami, Florida, where he attended the Frost School of Music and became immersed in Latin jazz and Cuban music. This immersion has given him the opportunity to perform and record as a sideman with many jazz and latin jazz masters, including Ignacio Berroa, Brian Lynch, Shelly Berg, Dafnis Prieto, and Martin Bejerano, among others. Recent accolades include winning multiple Grammys as the bassist on Brian Lynch’s award- album, “The Omni-American Book Club.” As a leader, Ringel released his debut album Threeplustwo with the chamber-jazz quintet of the same name in 2019. His second album, Geodesics, came out in Spring 2020 with the Finnish-American collective “Transatlanttiset,” co-led by Ringel, trumpeter Tomi Nikku, and flautist/vocalist Josefiina Vannesluoma. He maintains a busy performing and touring schedule.

BOB SAVINE, DRUMS Drummer Bob Savine began his formal musical training at Penn State University, from where he received a B.S. in Music Education. Further studies at Berklee College of Music in Boston led him to his current position as a freelance musician in the Boston area. Bob has performed with a diverse group of singers and instrumentalists including The Artie Shaw Orchestra, Keely Smith, Sheila Jordan, Mike Metheny, David Kikoski, Herb Pomeroy, Jerry Bergonzi and many other fine musicians.

Brian Smalley 1/29/2022

Blue Bamboo Center for the Arts, 1905 Kentucky Ave, Winter Park

Brian Smalley is a Florida guitar picker with ten crafty fingers, a variety of musical styles and multiple personalities. During his long musical career, Brian has worked to develop a motif that he describes as the “Acoustic Novel,” replete with plot and sub-text, providing a mental landscape that is something akin to aural musical theatre. First and foremost, these works are guitar albums, with the core purpose to produce pure original music; but there is something else here for those desiring to delve deeper.

Before ‘CHOSEN,’ Brian's most recent recording, he recorded six projects. His acoustic novel “ChickensPigs” received the Best Florida Folk CD award from The Florida Times Union in 2013. And thousands have enjoyed the tale of Painter Kellet, a homeless man in Key West, from the acoustic novel ‘KEY.’

Blue Bamboo Center for the Arts, 1905 Kentucky Ave, Winter Park

Since the group's inception in 2015, the CuBop catalog has expanded to cover a wide array of styles in the jazz idiom from Latin-Jazz to Hard Bop and to more progressive avant-garde styles all rooted within the classic quintet and sextet format.

CuBop consists of Marco Bojorquez on bass, Bob Thornton on piano, Greg Parnell on drums, Joe Breidenstine on trumpet, Jeremy Fratti on tenor sax, and Frank Wosar on trombone.
