Chamber Music Players

Come enjoy local talent as they bring the art of chamber music alive! The Chamber Music Players consist of internationally recognized violin & viola duo Routa Kroumovitch-Gomez and Alvaro Gomez. This husband-and-wife team will be joined by some of their talented friends and colleagues, and will play classical selections rarely performed.

Since making their professional debut in Russia in 1972, Routa and Alvaro have performed with orchestras in Europe, South America, Israel, Japan, Korea, Singapore, China, Canada, and as concert masters of the Chilean Philharmonic Orchestra. The duo currently perform together locally with the Bach Festival Orchestra, where Routa is concertmaster. Routa is also the professor of violin at Stetson University School of Music, where she has been a member of the faculty since 1989. Dr. Alvaro Gomez is the conductor of the Maitland Symphony Orchestra and Baroque Chamber Orchestra, both sponsored by local non-profit organization Performing Arts Matter.

We created the JazzPro Series to showcase some of the monster talent among us in Central Florida. This weekly Wednesday night series highlights local and touring artists of extremely high caliber. These are shows that you won't want to miss!

Simone Kopmajer is one of the most internationally successful contemporary jazz musicians from Austria. With her charisma and unbelievable talent, Simone manages to give her songs an emotional, charming, and in-depth note. Her sound is located somewhere between jazz, swing, and tasteful pop. Although her music is very relaxed, flowing and elegant, it is also playful. These multilayered facets distinguish her from other similar artists, and make her music all the more interesting.

Join award-winning pianist Dr. Zachary Bartholomew and his trio as they deliver an endearing musical performance remembering the legendary pianist, composer, and jazz icon Armando “Chick” Corea. This show will feature Corea's musical compositions spanning from beginning to end of his decades long career.

Joining Zach are Brandon Robertson on bass, and Max Marsillo on drums.

Dr. Zachary Bartholomew is an award-winning pianist, composer, and music educator who maintains an active performance career as one of the most heavily sought-after pianists, accompanists, and sidemen in Florida. He has headlined national and international jazz festivals, toured across the country, and has placed as a top three finalist in the highly acclaimed Jacksonville Jazz Piano Competition on two separate occasions. He is the pianist in the Gulf Coast Symphony’s Jazz Collective, the Lake Wales Jazz Connection, and regularly performs with professional organizations such as the Naples Philharmonic and Sarasota Pops Orchestra.

Additionally, Zach is a full-time professor at Florida Memorial University and is actively involved in music education and outreach. One current project is his state-funded “Jazz Access Tour,” an outreach program that aims to provide underserved communities and schools in Florida with world-class public performances and educational programs.

Brian Smalley is a Florida guitar picker with ten crafty fingers, mastery of a variety of genres, and multiple musical personalities. Every performance of his is lively and humorous, and he has a keen ability to connect to every listener.

During his long musical career, Brian has worked to develop a motif that he describes as the “Acoustic Novel,” replete with plot and sub-text, providing a mental landscape that is something akin to aural musical theatre.

First and foremost, his works are guitar albums, with the core purpose to produce pure original music; but there is something else there for those desiring to delve deeper.

KP Trio: Swingin’ the Night Away

Jazz at the Ballroom presents an evening of jazz with the Konrad Paszkudzki Trio featuring Olivia Chindamo on vocals and Dylan Shamat on bass.

Called by JazzTimes, “a rising-star pianist,” Australian-Polish Konrad Paszkudzki began his career at the age of 15 when he went to university in Perth. He finished his undergraduate degree at 18 and quickly established a reputation as a leading jazzman in Australia—including becoming the first pianist to win the James Morrison Scholarship in 2008. It was James Morrison who said of Konrad, “To put it simply, he is Jazz!”

Olivia Chindamo is a New York-based jazz vocalist from Australia whose unique voice effortlessly carries and delivers stories and melodies with the highest level of integrity, honesty and musicianship. With a special love for improvisation, Olivia's musical endeavors offer a fresh combination of old and new as she continually fuses an ever expanding knowledge of jazz history with her modern sensibilities, impressive technique control and textural versatility.

Bassist Dylan Shamat is a bassist, composer, and educator based in New York City, where he studied at the Manhattan School of Music and The Juilliard School. Since 2016, Dylan has performed pops concerts with many major North American orchestras, including Houston symphony, Minnesota Orchestra, and the Cleveland Orchestra.

Baritone saxophonist Glenn Wilson and guitarist Rory Stuart celebrate the 32nd anniversary of their ground-breaking duo album "Bittersweet". Joining them this afternoon are Greg Parnell on drums, and Richard Drexler on bass.

Rory Stuart is a critically acclaimed jazz guitarist and composer based in New York. As a leader, he has CDs that have received 4 stars in Downbeat, and been voted 10 best of the year in Coda and Cadence. Rory has also performed with a wide range of artists, from Brother Jack McDuff to Steve Coleman, and has been called by Jazz Times “Perhaps THE most innovative straight-ahead jazz guitarist to emerge in years.”

Glenn Wilson has been called "an unsung hero in modern jazz" by the All- Music Guide. He has recorded for several jazz labels over his 50-year career and has toured and recorded with Buddy Rich, Lionel Hampton, Tito Puente, Bob Belden and many others. Glenn also directs furtherjazz.org, a non-profit organization.

Jazz Trombonist Harry Watters travels nationally and internationally as a Jupiter Artist. A graduate of North Texas University, Harry has performed as a soloist with the the Syracuse Symphony, the Baton Rouge Symphony, the Louisiana Philharmonic, the Tulsa Pops, the West Virginia Symphony, the University of North Texas One O'Clock Lab Band, the Janacek Philharmonic, the Moldovan Festival Orchestra, and the U.S. Army Orchestra.

Harry is also in demand as a clinician. He has presented his "Power Practicing" seminar at the Jazz Education Network National Conference, the Association of Concert Bands' National Convention, and many top universities around the country.

Students learn the theory behind jazz composition and improvisation and have the opportunity to do sectional work with some of the area's top jazz musicians. The Joseph Wise Jazz Band is for students ages 12 to 18.
