Don Soledad Trio presents: Parallels

Don Soledad (flamenco guitar), Shankh Lahiri (tabla) and Kanada Narahari (sitar) take us on a journey into the world of Indian classical music and flamenco guitar.
The idea of combining Indian classical music with western music was first introduced in the 1970s by the great jazz guitarist John McLaughlin and his band’s Mahavishnu Orchestra and Shakti. Indian music is based on melodic framework (ragas) or single notes played in a specific order. Flamenco music in particular is derived from Arabic and Romani Gypsy music and is similar to Indian music in the use of a rhythmic approach and counting system.
“Parallels” is a celebration of these musical styles infused together as well as in its traditional form, performed solo, duo and trio.
Don Soledad: Inspired by the guitar of flamenco legend; Paco de Lucia, Don Soledad cultivated his sophisticated, soulful sounds in Northern, California, beginning with his early guitar studies with the great Spanish flamenco maestros; Mariano de Cordobá and Agustin Ríos - the nephew of legendary guitarist Diego del Gastor. His studies continued in the Southern region of Spain; Andalucía in the city of Jerez de la Frontera - with guitarist Juan Diego Mateos. Soon thereafter, he was performing shows in San Francisco and the Sonoma and Napa Valley wineries.
The Don Soledad Group and recently won 1st place at Orlando's FusionFest 2020 for Best Musician category.

Shankh Lahiri is an internationally touring tabla artist, music composer, singer and founder of the non-profit organization Shruti Foundation, Shruti School of Music, ‘WAHH! World Fusion Band’ and ‘Shankh and Friends’ Global Peace Project.
Shankh has gained his reputation as a very creative & Innovative concert performer in both Indian Classical and Experimental World Music genres. Ha has performed at major festivals such as ‘South by South West’ Festival, Chicago Jazz Festival, Gasparila Music Festival, Learn-quest Music Festival and many more. He received the Best of the Bay award in 2016 for his World Music album ‘Liberation’ & ‘Brother Ray’.

Kanada Narahari (Kanada Raghava) was born in Manchikeri, a small village in western ghats, Karnataka, India to his illustrious parents, Vidvan Narahari Keshava Bhat and Sumangala Bhat. His father Vidvan Narahari Keshava Bhat is a renowned Sanskrit scholar, poet and author of many works in Sanskrit on theatre plays and Yakshagaana, a form of traditional performing art.
Narahari qualified as an Ayurvedic Doctor with BAMS degree, allowing him to experiment with the healing properties of Classical music which he began to infuse into his therapeutic practice. He has developed an academic interest in all genres of music and today is widely recognised as a prominent music therapist.
Today he has evolved into an highly accomplished sitar player having performed widely in India, Nepal, South Africa and United States.
Kanada Narahari is based currently in central Florida.
