THE KELLY/SCOTT SEXTET with Trombone Legend Dave Steinmeyer!

Co-led by vocalist Lisa Kelly and trumpeter JB Scott, this highly entertaining group features 6 renowned jazz artists, each with national and international playing experiences as soloists, and in small groups and big bands. Based in Florida, the sextet has enjoyed repeat performances for many regional to national jazz festivals, jazz clubs, concert venues, jazz societies, corporate and private events. Lisa and JB are each profiled among 320 of today's top international jazz artists in the acclaimed book, The New Face of Jazz. They have appeared with many jazz luminaries, including Ed Calle, Cyrus Chestnut, Arturo Sandoval, and Jane Monheit.

With 8 Downbeat Magazine awards to her credit, Jacksonville Jazz Festival 2013 “Hall of Fame” inductee Lisa Kelly has been the featured vocalist with the Larry Elgart Orchestra, Chris Riddle Orchestra, St. Johns River City Band and has appeared on TV, radio, and on many recordings. Warburton Trumpet Artist, JB Scott is the Coord. of Jazz Studies at UNF and directs UNF JE 1. He has toured with the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra and was the 3-year bandleader of the famed Dukes of Dixieland. Former band leader of the Air Force big band, the Airmen of Note, Dave Steinmeyer is a “trombonist’s trombonist.” He has performed with many notables including Sarah Vaughn, Joe Williams, Rosemary Clooney, and Frank Sinatra, played for 8 U.S. Presidents, and appeared in the classic movie, “A Few Good Men.” Highly popular and versatile pianist Jeff Phillips has performed with the Midiri Brothers, Clark Terry, and Louis Bellson, and is the staff pianist at Walt Disney’s Grand Floridian. Bassist Charlie Silva has performed for the Walt Disney properties, and with Clark Terry, Warren Vache’, and Mel Lewis. Former U.S. Navy Commodores drummer Clyde Connor is on faculty at the University of Florida, has appeared with numerous jazz groups and luminaries, and is considered one of the top big band drummers in the country.

Advanced in the study and performance of jazz, these group members are much in demand as artists, clinicians, and mentors. Together, they present music that is engaging, versatile, and skillfully interpretive, with a repertoire of creative approaches to jazz 'classics,' from the Great American Song Book, to Trad favorites from New Orleans, pop tunes, and self-penned originals. Influences on the group include Louis Armstrong, Clark Terry, Ella Fitzgerald, Diana Krall, Oscar Peterson, Teddy Wilson, Monty Alexander, Art Tatum, Jack Teagarden, Tommy Dorsey, Glenn Miller and Buddy Morrow.
