 —  —

Blue Bamboo Center for the Arts, 1905 Kentucky Ave, Winter Park

Join us for the Blue Bamboo Jazz Festival 2023! Four concert events September 14th-17th. This evening will feature John Redfield in the first set, and Septessence in the second set.

Originally from Chicago, John Redfield is a virtuosic pianist who has been dazzling Central Florida audiences for the last few years. In John's playing the influence of piano masters like Oscar Peterson, Wynton Kelly, and Art Tatum can be heard. He plays with both rapid fire intensity, and melodic sensitivity. His solo piano stylings will leave you amazed.

Septessence is a new jazz septet led by bassist Nashir Janmohamed. Based in Orlando, the group was formed from members of UCF jazz programs. They will present a mix of original compositions by members of the band, as well as their arrangements of jazz standards. Featuring Robert Schmidt on trumpet, Fortunato Occhino on tenor sax, Quint Johnson on alto sax, Noah Charles III on guitar, Richard Drexler on piano, Marco Bojorquez on bass, and James Fortune on drums.

The Blue Bamboo Jazz Festival will also be displaying the exhibit "From Ella to Coltrane: The Jazz Photography of Roger Kallins". This exhibition commemorates the late British photographer Roger Kallins (1938-2013), highlighting some of his best jazz images taken over a period of 50 years. The 45 images on display are originals, scanned from 35mm black-and-white negatives and printed on archival watercolor paper by Kallins himself. They are generously on loan from and curated by Anthony Ehrlich.

The Blue Bamboo Jazz Festival 2023 is sponsored in part by United Arts of Central Florida and the National Endowment for the Arts.

All ticket sales are final. Refunds are allowed only if the event is cancelled.
